The Site
The site comprised a former wartime ARP Station located in the green belt outside Kilmacolm. The buildings on the site presented planning restrictions and opportunities.

Appraisal
The flat site adjoins a main road and has extensive views over the surrounding countryside with open aspects allowing maximum sun exposure. The existing wartime buildings on the site presented both planning restrictions and opportunities.

Client’s Brief
The client wished to build a small development of detached houses of an “arts and crafts” style.

The Scheme
A series of planning consents led to an opportunity to replace the existing buildings on the site with a series of three detached dwellings (two of which were built). The houses are a modern interpretation of an “arts and crafts” style with steeply pitched roofs and vertically proportioned stone dressed windows.
