The Site
A woodland site located within Kilmacolm’s Conservation Area, the sloping ground sits between dwellings on the edge of Kilmacolm.

Appraisal
The site is heavily wooded with evergreen trees dominating the rocky sloping ground. The site is secluded with limited visibility from adjoining ground.

Client’s Brief
To obtain consent for a large family home taking advantage of the secluded location and any available views.

The Scheme
A detailed survey of every tree on the site revealed a central area of ground of an ideal size to accommodate the house. A low retaining wall is used to form a flat platform for the house, also allowing a dramatic cantilever of the front part of the house over the rocky slope. The house is two storey and has a fully glazed front, maximising natural light and affording views through the trees from the living areas. The house is clad in timber (reflecting the woodland setting) and zinc.
