The Site
The site is vacant farmland on the moor south of Greenock, adjoining the historic watercourse infrastructure of the town.

Appraisal
The ground was assessed as being ideally suited for a leisure use with good road, walking and cycling access and close proximity to a number of historic and prehistoric sites and the open countryside. The site is located within the designated green belt.

Client’s Brief
The client wished to obtain consent for a low density group of serviced holiday cabins taking advantage of the location, accessed by means of a new road.

The Scheme
The proposal comprises a series of energy efficient timber framed cabins orientated to take advantage of the views and relative isolation of the area. Visual studies inform the detailed design, with green roofs sitting low to the landscape to make the development inconspicuous from the surrounding ground. In encouraging “stay at home” holidays, the scheme promotes sustainable goals.
